SPECIAL EVENT POLICIES AND FIRE CODE REGULATIONS

 

 FOOD VENDORS

The following information is a listing of the basic requirements for food vendors at any and all special events within the Irmo Fire District’s jurisdiction. 

 

1/  Cooking appliances and exhaust systems shall comply with applicable UL and

            IMC standards and requirements.

 

2/  Compressed gas (propane, helium, etc.) cylinders shall be firmly secured to prevent

            the cylinder from falling or being knocked over.  All compressed gas cylinders,

            hose, regulators and any other devices shall meet NFPA and IMC standards.

 

3/  Proper fire extinguisher coverage for cooking appliances that utilize synthetic oils

            is a class K extinguisher. A class K and a minimum 40BC extinguisher shall be

on site at all times.  Regardless of age (new or used) all extinguishers shall have a tag attached which clearly shows the required service has been performed within the previous twelve (12) months by a SC licensed service company.

 

4/  No cooking is to be performed under any tent, canopy or other material structure at

any time without approval from the Fire Marshal.  All tents in excess of 200 square feet shall have NFPA 701 certification attached to the tent material to indicate fire retardant compliance.

 

5/  Gas powered generators shall be separated from cooking appliances and tents by a

            distance of no less than 20 feet.  Refueling of generators shall only take place with

            the generator turned completely off, and cooled sufficiently.

 

 

 

            Any food vendors not meeting all of the above requirements will be shut down until the necessary corrections are completed.
